Running an Advanced Higher Chemistry course (including investigation) Friday 4th November 2011 09.30 - 15.30 £159 plus VAT This course is aimed at teachers new to AH Chemistry or those who wish to be updated on the delivery of AH Chemistry. The course is delivered by former teachers who have had many years experience in presenting and marking AH Chemistry and are up to date with all aspects of assessment of the course.
During the day the course will cover:
- Running a course - arrangements, timing and planning, nabs, prelims, appeals and resources available
- Investigation - ideas, managing the investigation, the daybook
- Course practical work - hints and tips, what needs to be covered
- Writing the report - what makes a good report, marking a report
- General question and answer session - a chance to ask questions on any aspect of AH Chemistry

Teaching Higher Chemistry including the new syllabus and CfE Tuesday 15th November 2011 09.30 - 15.30 £159 plus VAT This course is aimed at new teachers and teachers who want to update or refresh their
knowledge and skills. We look, in depth, at the SQA Arrangements Document,
External and Internal Assessment Reports and the changes necessary to meet the
requirements of a Curriculum for Excellence. CFE brings not only changes in content,
but also changes in teaching methodology. Items covered will include:
- coming to a common understanding of the Arrangements Document
- evidence requirements/record keeping/fulfilling performance criteria
- quality assurance requirements including internal verification
- resources available/teaching approaches/ building on best practice
- identifying weaknesses and providing appropriate support
- management issues/timelines/ deadlines/outcome 3 reports
- enhancing the delivery of lessons using ICT
- encouraging the independent learner
- building CFE and AIFL requirements into normal classroom activities
- practical sessions on making judgements and maintaining standards
